National Coming Day - I'm so gay 🌈

I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since I came out to my family and close friends. I was a young married mom who was raised with strict Christian beliefs. I knew once I uttered the words, "I’m gay" and that I am attracted to women everything would change. I wasn’t kicked to the curb, beaten, or killed as some of my fellow queer folks had to endure so for that I’m grateful but my experience wasn’t a welcome band with happy hugs.

There were tears, reading of bible verses, and from a few, it was unconditional support. I experienced being denied entry to an event, I’ve had friendships end because of religious beliefs, I’ve been told I couldn’t stay at a family member's house and the list goes on.

It’s painful and these experiences keep coming, as long as the idea that gay is a sin and immoral I’ll always have to watch my back, be careful how I move and who I decide to keep in my circle.

Despite the pain and the struggles, I'm so happy and proud of myself for having the strength to walk away from everything I knew to live an authentic life.

Surround yourself with people who see you and support you for who you truly are, everyone else can watch from a distance.

This song was hitting the airwaves and all the gay clubs were reppin hard! Throwback to Katy Perry - I kissed a girl and I liked it.
